The Houston Christian University (HCU) women's basketball team is gearing up for a pivotal Southland Conference matchup against the Texas A&M–Corpus Christi Islanders this Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at the Hilliard Center in Corpus Christi.
Currently holding a 5–14 overall record and 3–9 in conference play, the Huskies are determined to snap a three-game losing streak. Their most recent setback occurred on Thursday evening against UT Rio Grande Valley, where junior guard Tove Caesar led the team with nine points. The Huskies' last victory was a 65-52 win over East Texas A&M on January 17.
On the other side, the Islanders (4-15, 3–9 SLC) are coming off a 70-64 home win over UIW on Thursday. In that game, junior guard Asha Walker delivered a career-high 27 points, while senior Marissa Shelton added 21 points. The Islanders showcased their dominance on the boards, out-rebounding the Cardinals 47-32.
Senior guard Samora Watson leads the Islanders with an average of 13 points per game but has been sidelined for the past four contests. Senior K'Nari Holliday is the team's leading rebounder, averaging six boards per game.
For the Huskies, freshman Kamryn McLaurin continues to be a standout performer, averaging 12.2 points per game and shooting 45% from the field.
